Mediation is ‘working things out by talking things through’. It a mediators job to help people resolve disagreements in this way – to help them say the things they need to say, and find solutions together.
So if you have had a decision about an EHC plan (or an assessment) that you disagree with, mediation can help you resolve things with the Council.
Mediation is confidential and voluntary, so its your decision whether you try it or not. You can talk to a mediator before you make up your mind – this might be called a ‘mediation advice conversation’.
You may also hear the term ‘disagreement resolution’. This is the same as mediation but used in different circumstances.’
